University of Évora, Colégio do Espírito Santo | 15-17 November, 2023
From 15 to 17 November 2023, the 7th Portuguese Meeting on the History of Science and Technology was held at the Colégio do Espírito Santo. Organized by the Institute of Contemporary History – FCSH Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and the University of Évora, the meeting sought to address the crisis issue from a perspective focused on the history of knowledge and technology.
The meeting included a panel from the TRANSMAT project, entitled “Colonial Ethnographic Collections: Reconstructing Collections and Connecting Histories”, which included papers by Elisabete Pereira, Liliana Caldeira, and Maria Figueira, who presented some of the results from the research carried out so far. Crossing various types of historical sources, and with an analysis centered on the history of scientific collecting, this session aimed to demonstrate the connections between local and national histories with transnational contexts of circulation of objects and people associated with Portuguese colonial activities.
The program and book of abstracts for this event, in which several other members of the TRANSMAT team also presented results from their individual and collaborative research projects, are available at the ENHCT 2023 website.
