Maria de Fátima Nunes, Vice-President of the IHC and Full Professor of History at the University of Évora, was invited to be Corresponding Academic of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, in its Arts Class, History Section.

The Lisbon Academy of Sciences is a scientific institution of public utility founded in 1799, being one of the oldest national scientific institutions in continuous existence. Its mission is to provide “independent scientific advice in matters crucial to the country’s development.” Corresponding Academicians are individuals “who have produced literary or scientific work of recognised merit and are in a position to provide the Academy with effective collaboration.”

Besides her position on the IHC Board, Maria de Fátima Nunes is also the coordinator of the Research Group on the History of Science, Technology, and Environment and Director of the PhD Programme in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Évora. The IHC historian thus sees her academic and civic career recognized in the fields of history of science and scientific culture.
