Pitt Rivers Museum – University of Oxford | November 13–16, 2024
Elisabete Pereira (IHC-University of Évora/IN2PAST), principal investigator of the TRANSMAT project, and Maria Figueira (IHC-University of Évora/ IN2PAST), project fellow and doctoral student in the History and Philosophy of Science – Museology program at the University of Évora (IHC), carried out a scientific mission between November 13 and 16 at the Pitt Rivers Museum – University of Oxford.
On this occasion, they met with researchers Lennon Mhishi (University of Oxford– Pitt Rivers) and Ciraj Rassool (University of Western Cape) from the project Re-connecting “objects”: Epistemic Plurality and Transformative Practices in and beyond Museums, which was developed on the colonial collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum (University of Oxford).
The researchers, welcomed by museum curators Bryony Smerdon and Joanna Cole, had the opportunity to view some of the objects in the Pitt Rivers collection and participate in the undergraduate project of a student in the Archaeology and Anthropology program at the University of Oxford.
The mission also included a working session with researchers from other UK universities, such as the University of Arts London, and artists from the diaspora, such as Fungai Marima and Bokani, who participated in the Pitt Rivers Museum project.
